Users could also use Bluetooth wireless headphones, which have become increasingly more popular over the years. Those with older headphones will likely still be able to use them, though they would likely need an adapter that plugs into the Lightning port.<br /><br />The move is said to allow Apple to make the next iPhone even thinner, which is in line with what the company has traditionally done following an "S" year like this past one was.<br /><br />As usual with early rumors like this one, Apple has remained mum on the topic.<br /><br />The move to change the headphone jack or ports on the iPhone is also not unprecedented for Apple. The first iPhone in 2007 had a recessed headphone jack that was deeper into the phone than most devices and required an adapter to work with many headphones. This part of the iPhone was largely criticized by critics and users and Apple returned to a standard port with the iPhone 3G in 2008.<br /><br />The company switched to the now standard Lightning port in 2012 with the iPhone 5 after using the larger 30-pin connector on its iPhones, iPads and iPods. Alas, today's truth is that, in many workplaces, especially in prestigious organizations, working long is also key to being promoted and not "laid off." <br /><br />Be low-maintenance. In a kinder world, bosses and coworkers would be particularly supportive of employees in need: who suffer from mental illness, have a family member with cancer, and simply who need tasks reexplained. But I'd be less than honest than to encourage you to open up about such things. In many workplaces, especially in prestigious organizations, everyone feels pressure to do more with less and so if you're perceived as high-maintenance, you become a candidate for being marginalized, shunted aside where others won't have to deal with your issues. <br /><br />Alas, the rule for getting ahead in many if not most of today's workplaces: Be preternaturally pleasant. Even more surprising: they are increasingly likely to shift to SUVs.<br /><br />The disenchantment with clean-air fuel savers appears to be the result mainly of relatively low fuel prices, though there also seems to be a decline in their being seen as "special."<br /><br />"For better or worse, it looks like many hybrid and EV owners are driven more by financial motives rather than a responsibility to the environment," says Edmunds.com Director of Industry Analysis Jessica Caldwell. "Three years ago, when gas was at near-record highs, it was a lot easier to rationalize the price premiums on alternative fuel vehicles. But with today's gas prices as low as they are, the math just doesn't make a very compelling case."<br /><br />It's a blow to the sentiment of Earth Day today, the 45th annual fete for the planet.<br /><br />And it's bad news for automakers, who need to sell more and more alternative-power vehicles to meet tightening federal fuel-economy rules.<br /><br />To avoid a backlog, General Motors recently cut the prices of its Spark EV andCadillac ELR extended-range electric and temporarily halted production of itsChevrolet Volt plug-in car.<br /><br />Sales of the Nissan Leaf, the best -selling EV in the U.S., are down 27.2% the first quarter this year in a new-vehicle market up 5.6%, says Autodata.<br /><br />Toyota's Prius gas-electric hybrid is down 7.7%; the plug-in version, fell 61.4%, Autodata says.<br /><br />Overall, only 45% of this year's hybrid and EV trade-ins have involved the purchase of another alternative-power vehicle, Edmunds data show. That's down from slightly more than 60% in 2012 and is the first time the rate has fallen below 50%.<br /><br />Too, the data show that 22% of people who traded in their hybrids and EVs so far this year bought new SUVs. That's up from 18.8% last year and close to double the 11.9% rate three years ago, Edmunds.com says.<br /><br />Edmunds calls the data "a surprising look at how today's gas prices are drawing hybrid and EV owners toward gas-guzzling vehicles at a much more accelerated pace than in recent years."<br /><br />Some of the alt-power decline also could be the loss of the snob appeal, says Caldwell. "A big detractor for these vehicles is that they've moved into the mainstream, so they've lost that 'special' appeal.
